1
Meet your Ikigai guide in Entebbe or Kampala and set off westward (5–6 hours). The journey winds past tea plantations, crater lakes, and busy trading towns. Arrive at your lodge on the edge of Kibale Forest, where the evening comes alive with cicadas and birdsong.
2
At dawn, head into Kibale Forest National Park. The air echoes with the calls of red colobus and black-and-white colobus before the excited hoots of chimpanzees ring through the canopy. Track them on foot, watching them swing through the trees, groom one another, and forage noisily. In the afternoon, visit Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary for more primates and colourful birdlife.
3
After breakfast, drive 3–4 hours south to Queen Elizabeth NP. In the afternoon, enjoy your first game drive across Kasenyi Plains, where elephants roam in herds, buffalo graze, and lions may be spotted stalking kob antelope.
4
Rise early for a game drive on the Kasenyi Plains, then return for lunch at the lodge. In the afternoon, board a boat for the Kazinga Channel cruise, gliding past hippos, crocodiles, and one of Africa’s densest concentrations of birdlife.
5
Travel south through the Ishasha sector, renowned for its tree-climbing lions, often seen draped across fig branches. After a game drive here, continue into the highlands of Bwindi. Arrive at your lodge nestled at the edge of the forest.
6
Today is the highlight of the journey. After a ranger briefing, trek into the dense jungle of Bwindi. The trail winds through ancient trees, with birdcalls filling the air, until suddenly, there they are — a gorilla family, feeding, grooming, and playing just meters away. Spend an hour in their presence, a humbling and unforgettable experience. Return to the lodge for a well-earned rest.
7
After breakfast, begin the journey back to Entebbe (8–10 hours) with a stop for lunch en route. Arrive by evening for your onward flight, carrying the memory of chimps hooting at dawn, lions in fig trees, and gorillas in the mist.
